Faulty power supply return

As the title says, i had to return a power supply that went faulty on the first day of used (and the day it arrived). I ordered it from ebuyer.com who said i could get either a refund or replacement. I chose refund.

No problems so far but when i actually came to returning it i discovered that they will either get Yodel to pick it up the next day or i could pay to return it via a different company/courier, having had a bad past experience with Yodel i chose to get it shipped back myself. It has now been posted but to my horror they stated that they would only refund £4.00 of the return cost. Surely under SOGA they have to pay all of it? Not just £4.00 of it. Am i right in saying they must pay me back all of it? It cost £12.98 to send back to them.

I assume them using yodel would be free? That would also shift the 'problem' to them if yodel lost it as they would have the contract with them, not you.
By offering that free (possibly) you may no longer be entitled as you didn't use the free option.

You are entitled to claim back reasonable postage costs but you chose an expensive way of doing it, £12.98 is not reasonable when you could have done it free, you should have left it to them.

I guess i'll just take the £4 then. Oh and £12.98 was the cheapest i could possibly get. Royal mail wanted to charge me £26 via special delivery. No other courier would do it any cheaper.

    etc etc

But for future reference, if the retailer offers a return option and they arrange it then its their problem if something goes wrong as long as you can prove you sent it.

Rubbish. Collect plus would have been £6.19, UPS would have been £7.79.
