How long did you stay in your first property?

We bought our first tiny house thanks to a £2,000 deposit - wedding present from parents. We were on a very low income and really struggled. Hardly went out. Ate basic food. A luxury was a video rental and a takeaway - once a month if we were lucky. Then, after 5 years, we both got better paid jobs and moved. House had gone up a bit in value but it was taken by the cost of buying and selling (but I guess we didn't lose the money we'd have paid out in rent). Been in our second house for 20 years and may never move !0

18 months so far - 3 bed ex LA flat but perfect for my current needs so planning on staying at least 5 years. The end plan is for a freehold and I'm overpaying as much as possible each month but with the way the London market is, even with the overpayments and increased salary, I'm not sure whether I could upgrade within my current (preferred) area.0

I guess I am not from a family of home movers - my grandmother lives where she was born 93 years ago (her parents had lived there ever since they were married), my parents live in their first home (golden wedding this year), I live where I always have since getting married (24 years).
On the other hand, my husband moved 19 times as a child, and his parents have moved 4 times in the last ten years.0 -

I stayed in my first property that was bought jointly with my best friend for approx. 20 months. He then bought me out to allow me to have the deposit to buy my own 'middle' home.
Lived there for 6 years before moving to my final home (hopefully).0
