How long did you stay in your first property?

I'm now moving after 5 years living in my 1 bedroom flat.
Using the equity made in my flat (doer upper, when I got it) to buy 2 bedroom terraced.
So benefited from price increases (bought in 2009 so near bottom of the market) and changes I made (about 25% increase).
I've been able to increase my mortgage by £30,000, reduce the term by 5 years and still pay the same as before (including maintenance).
So can be done without extra money. Although I do have a better paid job now which obviously helps with MMR.0 -
I'm still in my two bed terrace which I bought in 1995 - I haven't wanted to upgrade because I've not got married/cohabiting or had a family so I'm just fine where I am.0

27 years so far and counting. No plans to move.0

In the 5th year of our first place now. We do plan upgrading as at the time of purchase we had 2 fair wages but my wage alone now is over twice as much as our joint income was then. The short term plan is to go for a remortgage with low fixed rate for a couple of years, hammer the overpayments and then upgrade with a much bigger amount of equity.MFW - <£90kAll other debts cleared thanks to the knowledge gained from this wonderful website and its users!0

Eight years in my first home. In the meantime, marriage and kids. Been in our current home in East Midlands for 5 half years now. I was only able to upgrade due to equity in the London house.0

11 years in my first place (2 bed terrace). Didn't plan on staying so long but it was cheap and we could save more deposit for our next place. Been in our second home 3 1/2 years which will most likely be our forever home.Mortgage free wannabeMortgage (November 2010) £135,850Mortgage (November 2020) £4,7840
