House still on rightmove

Afternoon all,

I put an offer in on a house and it has been accepted. I was under the impression that it would be now be taken off right move but its still on. I have spoken to the estate agent who said that they stay on until the surveys have been done?

Is this correct?

Cheers

That is correct as until the survey has been done & you are happy with everything, only then will vendor & ea be convinced that the sale will go ahead & property then taken off of the market & RM.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

You need to make it a condition of the offer for it to be removed from the market including all advertising. Did you ask for this?
I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

Ours was only taken off once we'd appointed solicitors, the EA may be wanting similar or a survey booked as some do wait for that first
  • We've found that Rightmove have properties on their site, particularly rental ones, long after they have been let and/or offers accepted.

I think the estate agents like to do this so that it attracts you to their own website where, after finding out the property in question is no longer available, they then proceed to show you their 'alternatives' in order to still get your business.

    Cheeky really, and very frustrating!!
  • Thanks,

I didn't ask for it to be taken off, last time a bought a house the EA took it off as soon as the offer was accepted.

It varies. My house was marked as SSTC as soon as I accepted the buyers offer, and the one I bought was removed as soon as my offer was accepted. On the other hand, my cousin's house (both buying and selling) were both still showing on rightmove even after exchange, and were still showing (albeit as 'Under Offer' 2 weeks after they had completed and moved!)

Even if their practice is not to mark it as Sold on rightmove you can still ask for confirmation that no further viewings will take place.

Entirely down to the individual EA's practices. Leaving properties that are no longer on the market showing on RM might generate more enquiries, but buyers will quickly learn to avoid a particular agent if they have a lot of unavailable properties that are still showing as available.

The place we're buying (hopefully exchanging contracts this week... fingers crossed) was taken off RM etc, but still shows on the agent's website as "Under Offer".
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks

And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning
  • Thanks TBagpuss I think I'll do that as I dont want to lose this house as its the only one in my price bracket that ticks enough boxes

Our vendor said that if we paid the asking price they would take it off market immediately. We agreed and it appeared on Rightmove and Zoopla as STC (Sold Subject to Contract) within 12 hours.

I suspect this might become a common practice to try to achieve the asking price.

we bought ours last wed - and ours is still on right move.. (as in i completed)..

We asked for the property to be removed from the market - the best they could do - was mark it as SSc
