First of all, what platform? Windows, Mobile, Mac, etc?

I use AVG - it is free, although there's an option to purchase it if you want. Otherwise I've noted Windows Defender being installed as an update from Microsoft. I've not used it but it looks to do what is required.

Avast (free version) will see you right on Windows.

I've used Avast (free version) for a number of years and rate it quite highly. Other than a few false positives over this time it's been fine.

Computer Shopper currently recommend Avast as the best free program (previously they recommended AVG)

Dont know what I must be doing wrong but when I try to download the free Avast, it jumps down to a page where they ask you to buy one of three different upgrades. Help!
