Help! Overflowing Drain!

Well, we gave up in the end and got someone in to do it - it had to be jetted to clear the blockage. The chap said that it was washing powder residue - he said it sets like plaster and is very difficult to dislodge, so he recommends that we use the liquid instead. I have reservations that that was what caused it, personally, but now that I've got into my powder/soda crystals/vinegar way of doing things I'm not going to be changing in the near future!
Wasn't too expensive either - only £60 - well worth it to stop listening to Colin whinging and wailing about it!
Thanks for all your suggestions, much appreciated.
