Attic refurb

Hi everyone
I'm thinking of converting my attic into a spare bedroom but there is a big tank with a box built around it. I've had a new boiler a few years back so was just wondering can this be removed now as it takes up a fair amount of the floor space about 1/8 of the space. I just need to insulate, plaster, and decorate up there. Want to maximise the space so I can get a bed in there and maybe a tv and wardrobe

Insulating, plastering and decorating is not a attic refurb, or loft conversion as it's usually called. The joists are unlikely to be anywhere near strong enough to support the weight of a room. There are other things that need to confirm like roof height, staircase head height and fire protection on doors and an upgrade of the alarm system. You can find yourself with trouble selling a house with a rudimentary loft conversion.
If the tank isn't part of the system anymore, then the tank can go. They are often left up there just because it's easier than removing.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Quite agree with the above. Firstly the joists will not be strong enough and secondly if a fire broke out the occupant would have no chance. I've just had mine converted properly - not cheap - but if (God forbid) there was ever a fire, whoever was up there would have 30 minutes of protection, waiting for fire brigade.Ask me no questions, and I'll tell you no lies0
