Business conference - insurance question

My employer is holding a conference type thing soon, and I am considering taking my own vehicle. However my car insurance is only for Social, Domestic, Pleasure and Commuting. Is travelling to this event likely to be covered under commuting on my policy, or would it come under business use (which I don't have)?
Also, my employer is a large company and runs a large fleet of company vehicles which they self insure. They have specifically said on the invite for this event that employees are able to take their own car. Would this mean that the company is likely to cover any claims incurred during the trip, in the event that the employee's own insurance policy doesn't provide cover?

My old firm used to add staff cars for similar trips. Over time it changed. Had to add the cars to the list then they refused to cover them.
Whether that was the insurers policy or the event of cost cutting im not sure. But maybe worth adding business cover to your insurance?
It maybe free or an admin fee. On the rare occasion it may actually reduce your premium.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Looks like there will be an admin fee, which to be honest I'm not prepared to pay.
I may just end up taking my company vehicle, however I would rather take my own car to get home quicker if nothing else (company vehicle has a speed limiter, and would also have to drop it off at work then make my way home).0 -
RIng the insurer, ask them if it'll be an issue.0

I would be highly surprised if it is 100% self insured. Given the unlimited liability they are running and the relatively cheap prices of say getting a reinsurance policy with a £5m excess/ deductible it wouldnt make sense to simply self cover.
Just because they've said you can take your own car doesnt mean they are offering insurance on it nor that they are advising you on your own insurance situation.
You need Class 1 cover to drive your own vehicle to this. Most insurers give this for free but of cause adding it mid term normally will attract an admin fee.
Even if your employers offered to cover the vehicle themselves your policy would still be the RTA insurer and so if there was any problem with the employer policy then your insurer would have to deal with any TP claims (no cover for your own damage) and would then have a right to claim that money back from you0
