I'm opening a 12 step house to help people with alcohol problems. I've got the name of the business, but I'm really struggling to find a strapline that explains precisely what we do.
We're not aftercare. We're not professionals. We offer our own experience of recovery. Peer recovery using the 12 step programme. But somehow we've got to get in that the house is for people to stay in ... like a guest house... and we'll be there to guide them through the 12 step programme. And they are free to have a holiday around that process.
I've mashed my brain trying to think of something, but I just can't link the alcohol recovery solution/process with a place to stay that's a chill out place for the alcoholic and their friends/family can join them at the same time or separately for a holiday.
We're a no fuss, 12 step solution to alcoholism with the safety of having a holiday too.
If anyone has any ideas for a nifty tagline/strapline for a business card, I'd be really grateful. Or if you can offer some questions/guidance for me to get the information I need for the business card.
THANK YOU!:D

Question:
Who is going to pay for this when AA is available and frankly most alcoholics will have spent their money on drink already?

!
I think you nailed it there ^^^^^ No sound bites, no fuss.0 -
I'd keep it short and sweet and straight to the point. Maybe even leave out the surplus verbiage and just punctate the core concepts eg
• Therapeutic • Residential • Holiday •
Whatever three or four words you think sums it up, maybe it'll include 'support', 'reform', whatever.0 -
Depends what you want to get across most: the holiday aspect? the peer support? the family and friends? I'm assuming the 12 Step part is a 'given', so could be '12 Step Breaks'; '12 Step Holidays', '12 Step Supported Breaks' etc.
Or something intriguing, maybe '12 Steps Further' or something like that.
Can I ask roughly whereabouts in the UK you'd be operating?Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Thank you Paddy and Sue for your replies. I wasn't sure I'd get a reply so to hear from you both is great :-)
I like the idea of punctuating the concepts, but I also like "12 steps further" though maybe that's not punchy and clear enough for those glancing at a business card.
Thank you for helping me push the ideas forward. It's made me realise I need to be clear that it's 12 step recovery from alcoholism... we can't help people with other addiction problems.
We don't necessarily have to do all 12 steps in one visit... though we can. We've had three people stay and did three steps in a weekend.
still a bit more thought to go into this. Thank you for your assistance and if anyone else has any ideas or suggestions, it would be wonderful to hear from you.0 -
OK... this is my thinking based on feedback so far. The business is called "Step House" and the strapline is to be something like "alcohol boot camp" which covers alcohol, residential and that we are serious about going through the steps fearlessly, thoroughly and with honesty.
However, boot camp has connotations of the army... so what do you suggest as an alternative?
This site has given me the confidence to know that we'll get the answer.
So, now we're giving a prize for the person who comes up with the tagline.0 -

If you want to be a bit softer, look at what the luxury spas call their detox packages.
What are friends and family going to be doing while the 12 step sessions are going on?
I'm going to watch this with awed fascination ... I have so many 'what if' questions ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Thanks Sue,
Your feedback is really appreciated.
Don't worry, the terms and conditions are sorted (and include both your points among others) it's the tagline that we're finding a challenge!
Of course there are multiple "what ifs" that's life!
We're based in Bulgaria. Since December, the house has been lived in by two Syrian Refugee families - both mums expecting babies on 22 and 26 May. We've had no help from any aid agencies, we have no kurdish language skills and yet we got the families to Germany on Sunday. It's been an extraordinary challenge. And we're still responsible for another Syrian refugee and possibly more will turn up. We need to get the Step House running as the cost of supporting the refugees has been crippling since we've had to this alone. Buglaria is the poorest country in Europe. There is no money for Bulgarian support, so certainly none for refugess.
In the meantime, we're trying to get the Step House up and running - website, business card, letter head etc.
It's tiring, but I know that with support anything is possible.
Share all your 'what if's' either here on by private message if you'ld prefer!
Thanks for all your help. Hiphouse0 -
