Clean emulsion from floor tiles

Have some red floor tiles,(quarry?), in the porch that have been splashed with white emulsion paint, tiles I think are from original house build, circa 1928, paint was splashed about 3 years ago, never bothered to clean as covered tiles with vynil, now want tiles back on show but can't remove paint?

Have tried, turps, petrol, white spirits, meths, paraffin, sanding, nothing appears to be shifting it !
Another suggestion was to use HOT water on a sponge then rub off with scourer,(idea being HOT water softened the paint),that hasn't worked either.

Any one got any workable solutions?

Apply sugar soap, leave for an hour, then use a wallpaper steamer, this should do the trick. You are right not to blow torch or heat gun, this could crack your tiles. HTH.

Had thought about one of those steamers that seem to do the rounds, haven't got a wallpaper steamer, might have to buy one , although that is not very money saving, the area is only about 2 square metres

Have you tried a scraper? I have a heavy duty one (a bit like a big stanley knife blade) It cleaned all the excess grout off our floor tiles.

Yep have used a scraper with and without the products in my OP, the paint seems to have got below the surface? can't see how as it is only emulsion?

Tried Nitromors on a cotton bud? Dab a bit on unobtrusive bit of tile to test and check timing.

Wash off all the checmicals youve put on it with plain water.

I would seriously try stardrops, neat on a microfibre cloth.

It took gloss paint off my laminate and also off a leather sofa.

I would be very surprised if it doesnt work. and at 58p a bottle its certainly worth a try.

Have actually tried stardrops, although on top of everything else, will try washing off all of the stuff I have put on and try neat stardrops, I also tried white vinegar, but as said up to now to no avail! Can't understand why, it's only emulsion for gods sake.

Stardrops did not work, however the product that does seem to be working is the good old fashioned Brillo Pad, labour intensive, but the area is not that big.

    Thanks for the suggestions.
