Would you condensation under kitchen cupboards damage under cupboard lights?

Hey guys...

Thinking of completing my kitchen by putting in some under cupboard lighting in. Thing is as I'm watching my potatoes boiling and seeing all the steam and condensation building up On the tiles and along/under the unit I'm just wondering would all that steam an condensation damage the workings of the lights?

Also does the steam affect units after a while? Never had built in with cupboards so 'closed in' before...

Sometimes the cupboard edges if they have a glued on trim can come away with steam. For this I tend to slide the kettle under the cooker hood so it doesn't boil directly below the units (with lighting too - I figure electrics and steam aren't a good combo!)

Do you have a cooker hood?

  • I do have a hood and I did switch it on....but the steam still seemed to travel along the underside of the units.

Yes I tend to push kette/steamer/rice cooker from under the units anyway but with the steam from the cooker it seems to trap it going upwards towards to hood then along under the cupboards...wondering if it's a good idea...maybe put lights further back from unit right next to the hood?!!

Is your cooker hood 'recirculate' only. If you don't extract moisture, condensation on lights will be the least of your problems.
