Bought a surface pro but it seems the case is electrified!?

Got one of these today, a surface pro 1, seems ok but when the power connector is plugged in, the case feels slightly electrified. If I run a finger along it it feels a bit staticy and electric fuzzy/bumpy. This disappears as soon as I unplug it.

I've googled it and there are several threads, some saying it's not normal, others saying it's normal, people saying it's because the power supply isn't grounded, etc.

Some people here have macbook pros and they exhibit the same thing when plugged in so I don't think the device is to blame. In order to get it replaced it's a massive faff because I got it online and would have to post it off etc. so would like to be sure this is definitely not the norm. I also read it might be a UK thing since we have a different voltage?

If anyone has one of these and can advise it would be appreciated.

My previous job was installing software on Dell Latitudes and they all exhibited that behaviour.

I don't think it is a fault as it affected a couple of hundred machines at least

  • I've been able to feel the mains leakage on the front panel of my Hi Fi ever since I bought it 30 years ago. At the time I measured it, and it was well within the limit specified in the relevant British Standard for double insulation.

I hate holding my ipad air when charging as I feel the electricity tingling all the time. I lean it on a cushion to use it then.
