Question about head lease

Just wondering if anyone knows anything about leases as I am never quite sure. We had a letter from a solicitor recently saying that the person who collects our annual ground rent no longer wishes to do so because of age and is willing to give us the head leasehold interest. We currently own the under leasehold interest.

We would continue to pay £5.50 a year as normal to the freeholder. If we wish to accept the offer of the head lease interest, we would have to contact our own solicitor and pay for it to be transferred. If we do nothing, we will continue to pay to the current person who collects it.

It seems to me that we would have to pay a solicitor for the privilege of staying the same. I don't see the benefit of acquiring the head leasehold interest even if it is being offered to us for nothing. Am I missing something ? As I said, not very knowledgeable about leases. If we could buy the freehold, I could see the benefit of that. Thanks for any replies.

Why don't you contact these people who should be able to advise you or point you in the right direction? https://www.lease-advice.org
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
