Travel Insurance for peanut allergy

Dear Forum

2 of my boys aged 5 and 9 have peanut allergy and I am finding it hard to find insurance for them as one of them had to go to A&E about 9 months ago after an analyphylactic nut reaction.

Can anyone recommend a company that will insure him whilst in Lanzarote for a week this August

Thanks

David

Staysure tend to be good for pre existing conditions. Have a forum search for pre existing conditions, the question comes up a lot and you'll find other suggestions.
  • I've just had a look on an insurance thread on the Atrial Fibrillation forum, which is another common pre-existing condition. Saga and Age UK are both suggested as companies who will insure. On the other hand Lloyds and Insure & Go were both blamed for cancelling even pre-existing policies when notified of a new diagnosis.
  • Just did a quote with STAYSURE and they are saying over £180!!!!! for the week

I expect it will be high, it is for two people, one has required recent treatment, and despite you no doubt being aware of how to minimise risk, there will always be an element of risk in a holiday environment. AllergyUK may have other suggestions?

Here you go, John Lewis covers nut allergies. I would still inform them on the medical declaration form though

    http://www.johnlewis-insurance.com/homepage/info-centre/tips-and-advice/expert-views/nut-allergies-travel.html

They actually cover a load of ailments automatically, useful to know
  • just did a quote on johnlewis but they won't insure as been admitted to A&E within the last 2 years for a nut reaction.
seems like most company don't want to know if you have had to go to hospital within the last 2 years for that nut allergy????

I think you may have a better chance actually speaking to insurance co's on the phone, instead of doing it online. I think a lot of their systems are set to refuse things like your issues. If you speak to someone, explain the situation, they can speak to the underwiters there and then and come back with a price.

I had a nightmare trying to get cover the other week, but got insured by speaking to someone.

    Worth a try.
