eg. by the fact that when I had to communicate a technical subject to people who didn't know it, I replaced the technical terms with synonyms, I explained each technical term after using it for the first time, I avoided abbreviations, I used paradigms, etc
What technical subject? How did you categorise those people as incapable of understanding it? What synonyms? By avoiding abbreviations do you mean you still used abbreviations? Avoiding and not using are different. How do you know these people even understood you?
There you go. Things to think about. Instead of asking for examples you should be the one giving examples you'd be giving in your case and we can look at what needs improving.0 -
my previous post proves you totally ignorant
I don't disclose more information, because it's not needed
I don't expect anyone to share his past
and if someone mentions what I used as example in my previous post, I really don't think that he reveals anything for his past, so again you are terribly wrong with your assumptions
ofcourse fictional examples are REALLY MUCH MORE welcomed, as they could be much more targeted to justify the competences
It's needed if you actually want a tailored help that's effective. Anything else is simply a waste of your and everyone else's time. End of. Now where did I leave my coffee mug... :mad:0 -

- ANY technical subject
- ANY who lacked the relevant knowledge
- ANY relevant synonyms
- AVOID abbreviations
your questions are USELESS
can you understand now that this CAN BE ADJUSTED TOO ANY JOB? I can communicate cardiothoracic surgery technique to patients for a doctor's position, or I can communicate hydraulic mechanism of aeroplane wings to pilots for a mechanical engineering position
I proved you again totally ignorant and again that I am after examples that can be suited to any position
as for the last, how do I know I was understood, it's indeed the last point of the STAR, but it was just an example I gave0 -

If you dared try answering interview questions like that in real life your application will be binned soon as you walk out the door.0 -
people...
I will give you an example of an answer that I am looking for from you:
as mentioned in my first post, I will be tested in order to examine whether I have competency in "communicating"
I ask you: what are the skills of communication? what are the characteristics of effective/successful communication?
I need to be understandable
I need to be persuasive
I need to be a good listener
what else I need to be? what else makes me a good communicator?
and how do I show that I am able to be understood?
eg. by the fact that when I had to communicate a technical subject to people who didn't know it, I replaced the technical terms with synonyms, I explained each technical term after using it for the first time, I avoided abbreviations, I used paradigms, etc
and so on....
I'm looking for a job myself at the moment and have found most of the people on here to be really helpful and am grateful for that help. I have also tried to help other people as much as possible and I hope some of my advice has been of use to them.
Judging by your questions and responses to the answers you have been given you are NOT a good communicator. It's not just about verbal communication, it's also about written communication and you have demonstrated how NOT to communicate in writing. Asking for help and then being rude to the people who respond won't get you anywhere.
I'm anticipating an insult in return! :eek:3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -

It seems to me that you don't really understand what is going to be asked of you in the interview. You will have to give examples of a time when you communicated well etc. If we tell you times when we communicated successfully it won't help you. You just have to think of your own examples from your own experience.0 -
2. Leading & Communicating
What springs to mind here is a time that you saw a colleague was struggling with something and you helped them out. You used your excellent communication skills in order to lead them.
Situation - your colleague was having difficulty with a particular program/system, you noticed because they seemed to be frustrated/slow/etc
Task - you asked them if they needed help, effective communication was both actively listening to them and then responding relevantly & clearly.
Action - you answered their questions, cleared confusing things up, gave them tips for the program/system that you had developed through first hand experience over the course of the job, asked if they needed any more help, let them to know you'd be happy to help if they needed anything more.
Result - this is about showing how you could prove you helped. So for example, they seemed a lot more confident/quicker/happier with the system/program and you saw them implementing your advice etc.
Good communication does indeed include written (as a previous poster has said) - so think about times that you've had to write to a group/team, as well as to an individual. Do you have a good command of written English, can you convey your points in writing quickly and accurately etc.
Hope this helps, though my experience is rather basic & unskilled. What's the role?0 -
1. Core Competence – Collaborating and Partnering
Situation - I asked for help on a forum. People seemed confused by my request for examples which would be relevant to my job, when I hadn't given any details.
Task - To clarify what I needed
Action - I explained, in quite a brusque way, that examples from THEIR life could be applied to my job. I insulted some posters and called one in particular ignorant, even though this was against the rules of the forum.
Result - For some mysterious reason, people seemed reluctant to help. I thought about why this might be, and clarified further the help I would like, changing my attitude so that I came across as grateful when people posted examples.
We can but hope...........Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0
