Recycle Centres Salvage

I was in leaving off some old items to the skip last week and was approached by someone asking if they could take the items from me. I said this was fine and tear away if it is any good to you as I would rather see an item being recycled by someone rather than go to an incinerator or tip. The lady who I gave the stuff to then went to proceed to salvage some other electrical items and I went on about my business.
However she was then approached by a "jobsworth" member of staff roaring and shouting his mouth off at her saying that she was not allowed to be "scavenging" in the skips LOL :rotfl:......... He started into a rant arguing with her over the items and was adamant she was not able to take them. I could not believe it to be honest! I overheard him being told that she was given authorisation by another worker and he said "oh well I do not care, I like my job it is a really handy number here and I am not getting into trouble"!
Now my annoyance is that while they tell members of the public they cant take anything out of the recycle centre to reuse or whatever but the "STAFF" can take the items and in fact sell them on and make money. Effectively they are paid by ratepayers to do the job plus they take the items and sell them on for profit?

We're on the edge of two counties. Very different policies - One sells items, one does not. I prefer the one who sells them - I'd much rather things were re-used. I needed a gas cylinder recently, so picked one up from them for £5. Worth every penny, especially as it was nearly full!0

Yea the girl was saying that too that she could not understand why they would not be pro reusing an item rather than scrap it. But later when I was talking to someone else they advised me that the man in question actually takes what he thinks is good for himself and sells it on for 100% profit.
I think if it is dumped and someone else wants to take it and re use it that there would be no problem.0 -
Husband works for a multinational waste company and they have struck a deal with a charity. The refuse sites set aside items they consider to have value, including electricals, and gives them to the charity. The charity then refurbishes the items and sells them in their shop. Profits are split 50/50 between the charity and the waste company. It's only running at a few sites at the moment but is making a healthy amount of money for both parties.0

You would not mind it going to charity, but it being set aside for this persons family members or himself to sell on is not good enough!0

I saw an item on the Tv news a few weeks ago, not sure where it was but this particular Council had opened a big shed at the dump and kept & sold anything that was any good. Not sure where the money went. They were speaking to some of the customers who includes a lady in her 60s/70s who said she visited the site at least twice a day to buy the bargains and resell them on ebay.
Good on her.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.
