Recovering deleted photos and videos from sd card

Hi there
All my holiday pics have been deleted by accident. I've seen very old threads advising on how to recover these but I don't know if those links are still safe or if there is better software in recent times. Those threads were from 2011 and 2012. Anyone done this successfully? Preferably a free software with clear instructions on what to do. Thanks!

  • If you are on PC try using Recuva, it has saved my !!! many times and is completely free to use! (All the piriform apps are free and amazing btw!)

    Piriform dot com / recuva

[New account so will not let me post links, but please trust me!]

Don't write anything else on the memory card, the files are technically still there and just the 'index' that tells the computer exactly where the files are has been deleted. So the software has to scan the card to find out where the files are again and recompile the 'index'. Therefore if you put any more files back onto the SD card you will overwrite the files that are still actually there, but are not known exactly where.

You will have to use 'deep scan' most likely, and it may take a few hours, but stick with it and the files should re-appear. As already said, make sure you save the files onto your computers hard drive and not the SD card again!

    Good luck!

Thank you. I'll try this afternoon and let you know. I removed the card from my phone as soon as it happened so hopefully that means I get to recover everything.

If the card has a tab on it to make it read-only, you can slide that just for safety

Thank you so much. I used the piriform recuva as that was also a name I'd seen recurring on the older threads as well as this one. All files and videos were recovered. I backed these up onto my PC hard drive and put some back on the sd card for easy whatsapping! :-)

I tried my best not to panic, hoping it would work and it did. I'm so grateful.
