Warning - don't buy new policies expecting a good deal with cashback

This is just a warning really. I think a lot of insurance companies have cottoned on to the fact that consumers use comparison sites to find a good deal, then look for cashback to cut the cost of insurance even further.
This is what I have done with my car insurance renewals. I found decent deals with Axa and Swiftcover and was in the middle of removing my current multicar insurance policy with Admiral. Each company quoted me a good deal via comparison sites and the £35 cashback for each insurer would have cut my renewal in total to about £420 for both cars.
However, when reading the small print on Top Cashback to claim/track the transaction, you cannot use any previous or saved quotes etc. So I cleared cookies, re-entered all the same info onto the quote and guess what, this time both quotes were at least £30-40 higher than before.
So if you do want to claim cashback, don't count on the insurance quote you've found staying the same! In my case it's cheaper to renegotiate a better deal with Admiral and not move.
Hope this helps someone

Insurers use both differential pricing and different products depending on which channel you use. Sometimes is very basic, eg if Legal Expenses defaults to being included or excluded and other times its a totally different product.
Clearing cookies etc only goes so far, assuming you used your real details then they still know its you. If you used fake details then they can still see the same IP being used for both quotes.0 -
Same name/address, Car details, Internet IP and your computers ID.
All trackable. So they can track your previous quotes. A few people on here have had problems after testing quotes. Insurer started asking for more info because they declared an accident or points on one quote but not when taking the policy out.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
