Party Wall Construction

Me and my neighbour are both considering extending to the rear of our properties so would more than likely get them done at the same time.

How would be the best way to construct the new party wall between the properties. Obviously double skin of blockwork is the most efficient but how would you go about insulating the wall? Would you use traditional cavity fill or insulated plasterboard on both sides of the party wall?

If you are already referring to a double skin of brickwork, then it goes without saying that you would fill the cavity with insulation.
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
  • Are you talking about a single double skinned wall between each property or each property having it's own wall?
  • Think I know what you mean....... Personally I'd go double skin of Block, with cavity wall insulation. Technically it'll be an "Internal Wall" so wouldn't worry too much about heat loss...
