I've just checked the microlight forums and the OP is a known experienced and respected microlighter, assuming it is the same guy who has posted here and not a troll who has copied his story.

I very much doubt an experienced and respected pilot would have got into this situation to start with, first noticing something funny about the fuel and deciding to fly anyway and secondly noticing power was down on take off and still deciding to fly, the first thing any pilot does if he/she notice a problem with the aircraft is land ASAP and in the case of the OP that just meant a circuit and land, not go off on a photographic jaunt.
I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world

All I can say is that there is the same post on the BMAA forum from a respected member of that forum.

I agree some bad decisions were made and I would like to think I would have acted differently in that situation, I am quite a cautious pilot.

Please also bear mind microlights are more capable in an engine out situation than the regular G.A. type aircraft due to to lower stall speed and inertia so the perceived risk is less to an experienced microlighter.
