Hi all, after a bit of advice.
My Car has been Parked up the drive ever since it failed it's Mot around a month a go and I didn't send off the SORN letter - simply forgot.
I have since had the car repaired, Mot'ed and now Taxed it but I had this Failure to tax vehicle letter through telling me to pay £80 or £40 reduced if payed by 18th May.
It also asks me for £21.67 in arrears of duty which I'm not sure on.
Do I have to bite the bullet and pay them £67.67??
Thanks.

It's up to you. It's not a fine though. It's a penalty. Failure to pay may lead to court and increased costs...but then on the other hand they may not follow it up at all. I never paid mine had a few more letters from them then they gave up chasing it. Non payment does not affect your credit rating. Non payment does not lead to a prison sentence either. It's just a civil penalty.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)

Cheers HappyMJ.
I am thinking about paying it before it increases to £80 however I don't think it's right that they want £21.67 in arrears seeing as I have bought got Tax now which covers from the expired one.0 -
I suspect that the letter claiming arrears was sent out before you bought your new tax. Write them a apologetic letter explaining that the car has been continuously taxed albeit belatedly & that there has been no loss of income therefore no arrears are due & certainly not penalty.0
