Offer accepted - Where do I go for Homebuyer's Survey?

We are both first time buyers and very new to this game so any help and advice greatly appreciated. We have had our offer accepted on a house about a week ago. We have presented our proof of ID, proof of funds and our solicitors details to the EA but we don't know what to do about getting a survey done. I think I'm right in thinking that the bank will conduct their own survey but that it's not an in-depth one. We'd like a proper one carrying out just in case there's anything lurking under the surface but we're not sure how to go about this. Is it a matter of looking a surveyor up in the Yellow Pages or would the EA recommend a couple? Thanks.

Most mortgage lenders will give you the option of 'upgrading' their basic Valuation to a survey.
Or call a local RICS surveyor for quotes.0 -
the valuation survey from the bank + the upgrade to a homebuyers survey will normally cost most than an independent surveyor. However, you have to pay for the valuation if you are getting a mortgage anyway, and doing the 2 separately will cost you more than getting the bank's upgrade.
whether you get the bank's upgrade or not is up to you. it is what i did, and i got a pretty in depth report and i am happy enough with my surveyor. the advantage of getting an independent one is you can do some research- talk the surveyor and tell them what you want them to look at etc etc- it seems like that process might be a bit more personal.0
