Thanks for the analysis of my parking skills based on my choice of car, the fact I've had no claims since passing clearly means nothing!
So ok if we're going to stereotype, I'm no car expert but surely there would be a higher repair bill for the Audi after he's used his decent acceleration to drive fast, take a few risks and then crash, than the bill to fix my Peugeot when I've definitely parked it into a wall?
I get what you're saying InsideInsurance (thanks for the helpful reply btw) I just find it bizarre how they've quoted us so little for a supposedly expensive car!
Isn't that exactly what insurance is, a form of stereotyping?0 -

Exactly! If you've spent that much on a car, you're gonna be careful! Not trying to say you're not, but I'm sure that most people will be slightly biased in favour of a more expensive car.
For example, my Fiancee's car is worth around £2000, mine is worth about £8000. So we're much more careful with my car - when we're parking it outside my house, my car gets "sandwiched" in, with her car one side and my dad's the other side, so no one car hit mine or open the doors onto it etc.
And if we had a garage, we'd be putting mine in it to protect it from getting stolen.
All these little things reduces the risk of claiming for my car.
Also, as mentioned insurance groups mean nothing. My Fiancee has only been driving a year, and her first quote (on puntos, 207s etc) was about £1600. Now a BMW 335i coupe was about the same, but a much higher insurance group.0 -

It just doesn't mean everything. Your own claims history is only one of the factors to consider when insurers set your premium. Others include the claims histories of people your age, the claims histories of people in your area... and the claims histories of people who drive your sort of car.0 -
Obviously it does mean something - your premium is lower than it would be if you'd had lots of accidents recently. (If you doubt that, go out, have a few accidents and see what your renewal quote looks like next year)

Sorry, that was just a bit of sarcasm aimed at forgotmyname, who was telling me that I park by ear because I drive a Peugeot, so I was merely pointing out that me personally having no claims suggests I probably don't park by ear! Perhaps I should have put (!) at the end to make that clearer...0 -

Yes, that was my whole point of my post, the fact they mean nothing!?0 -

Just because a car can accelerate fast doesnt mean either that most of its drivers do accelerate fast nor does it mean that their average driver cannot handle that. .
*I* know that, I just thought well if its alright for people to say all peugeot drivers cant park, I'll say all Audi drivers drive recklessly!0 -

Because being a more expensive car its more desirable to steal, therefore I would expect a higher premium.
But hey what do I know! All i know is this forum clearly loves to jump on newbies and make them feel as unwelcome as possible0 -

Just because its more desirable to steal doesnt mean more are actually stolen. A more expensive vehicle may have better security on them/ be more difficult to steal. Owners may not want to put their expensive car in the dodgy unlit carpark to save a few pennies.
I'm no expert on cars at all (or stealing them) but even I could get into my old Saxo in seconds without a key and move it (ok, not start the engine but still). Two of the people I've asked to move my car for me havent been able to actually move it even with the key0
