The trader will say whatever they need to say to sell the car - light damage, simple repair, not structural, etc, etc.

As the others say, find out why it is a CAT D.

If you are really really lucky, it was stolen and kept in a garage somewhere for long enough that the insurance paid out, and did no miles.

The more likely and suspicious reason is it had major damage, and has taken so long to repair that it hasn't had time to do any miles.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

Premiums will be higher and some companies wont insure at all. Also if there is a total loss claim they will pay out at a reduced rate - roughly 1/3 rd off.
Ombudsman says not more than 20% off the valuation, unless the insurer can provide evidence to support a higher deduction.

Hence why i said "roughly". It was an off the top of my head figure.

Although i would have thought they could use any residual evidence of the damage as reason to devalue it.

Doesnt mentioned "replaced with new panels and parts" either, so who knows what you're getting.

I'd be extremely jumpy about spending so much money on a Cat D.
