PLEASE HELP! Credit rating haunted by previous account issues

I'm hoping someone out there can help me!

Back in my uni days (2010) I switched my current account from one provider to another mainly due to the benefits of a student account and secondly I was not happy with the service I was getting. Upon opening my new account, I went into my local branch of the original provider (known as provider A hereon) to close my original current account and the savings account I had with them too. I signed a document to close my account (first error made by not getting a copy of this) and emptied my savings account and was told everything was closed. Oddly enough they tried to sell me a credit card after that without explaining anything to me so I knew I'd done the right thing in leaving this provider. I continued my term at uni (away from home address) thinking the account was closed but began receiving letters to my home address with charges to the current account because I went overdrawn by a couple of quid.

On a weekend visit to home I was a confused as I was told the account was closed so went into my local home town branch to question the letters and was told it's definitely closed and they couldn't see any charges on my account (second mistake - I should've got written proof of this).

Months passed and I returned home after term had finished only to come across default notices and bank charges in excess of £200 (not the news you want to hear being a student!). I went into my branch and explained what had happened and the customer assistant said the account had never been closed due to charges pending - which may have been why they didn't show up on my account when I originally closed it. I got told that either way I had to pay up otherwise bailiffs would be turning up to my home.

I got so fed up with being mucked about by Provider A that I payed up before my mum would get harassed by bailiffs. To this day I do not feel I was treated fairly and following my last visit to Provider A I actually went in a few times to double check the account was actually closed. Anyway years go by and you think you're all ok until you start looking into mortgages and taking note of your credit report. Of course all of what happened above is not in my report, only blobs or red shouting out arrears and missed payments (fantastic news when it's hard enough trying to get a mortgage).

Please tell me I can somehow have these taken off my credit report. I've had a clean record since (apart from 2 late payments which are considered human nature) but because of what happened in 2010 credit rating is in the red until 2016! I know there are letter templates on this website but I think they are only for bank charges, whilst I do think I should get that £200 refunded my priority is sorting my credit rating so I can apply for a mortgage.

They can't be taken off unfortunately as they were an accurate reflection of your account circumstances.
