Refund coming from manufacturer

My contract was obviously with the supplier and fitter of a boat engine.
I have already had one engine replaced because of a smoking problem. Now after 7 months of using the second engine that too is smoking.
The manufacturer has been out on two occasions to try to rectify without success.
I have been dealing with only the supplier up to now but I have had a copy of an email sent to the supplier by the manufacturer offering me a compete refund for the engine and installation costs.
My question is...
Can I now deal directly with the manufacturer to obtain the refund or am I bound by law to have to go through the supplier for my refund cheque?
Thanks

Go through the supplier as you have been.0

At the end of the day it sounds like the manufacturer is writing the cheque and it might save a bit of time dealing with the manufacturer. Sounds like it is now just an accounting transaction as everything is agreed.
A friend of mine was getting a payment from VW via the dealer, the dealer went bust supposedly after being given the money by VW to pay to the customer (my friend), I honestly thought he was stuffed but it later transpired VW hadn't issued the cheque or managed to cancel it and my friend got his money.0 -
Thanks you both.
I was hoping that Hintza you might be right, but thought as Keyser did.
Trouble is if I go through the supplier he has quoted me £2,500 for a replacement over and above quotes received by other boatyards!
Here is what the manufacturer said..".....we as (company
name) as a gesture of goodwill, are prepared to offer her a full refund on the engine including the installation costs when the engine was
installed..."
I was hoping to read that as that they, the manufacturer, would offer ME the refund.
I was not included in the cc's on the email though. It was sent to me by the supplier.
What do you think?I don't post much, but when I do it's all good!! :beer:0 -

I have claimed the refund through the warranty route.
The amount is quite high for me at over eight grand. Now I need go purchase a new engine at about the same price which I don't have enough money for...
Will they only pay me when they receive the engine back or can I get them to pay me before so I can purchase a new one?I don't post much, but when I do it's all good!! :beer:0 -
I very much doubt they will refund until the unit has been returned.0
