How is it better the my £250 Dyson that doesnt miss a thing?

Given that it has been proven that Kirbys can last for 50+ years, whereas a dyson can't last longer than 10 without losing plastic parts... :)

That said though, the more recent Generation series Kirbys (G3, G4, G5, G6, Ult.G, Diamond Ed., & Sentria) are weaker cleaners than their older counterparts, and due to the TechDrive, they also weigh a heck of a lot more (I threw my back out on my old G5 before I sold it), the older ones, such as Classic Omega & Classic III, Tradition, Heritage & Legend series, are much more powerful, and far simpler to look after (most of the time it's just belts, bags and brushrolls), and genuine spares are plentiful (though buying them from the states often works out cheaper!!!)... :)

There is a brand new and completely redesigned model to be released soon (might be this year), but like other vacuum manufacturers, they've gone over the top in terms of features, and sadly, I do believe it will be the last model they make, as it's so poorly thought out, and probably very expensive to maintain in the long run...

If you do want to buy a Kirby, I would suggest buying an older pre-Generation model, and if bought cheaply 2nd hand, you can take it to a Kirby service centre and have it refurbished to a "like new" standard for much less than buying a new Dyson for example... :)

Yes there are more powerful cleaners on the market, but they tend to be in the "Commercial" or "Professional" ranges, the Kirby is not that (despite the descriptions some people put on sales listings), as it is (and I quote) "A home sanitation system", and other cleaners do not have the multi-functionality that the Kirby does, or the tools and accessories (when was the last time you saw a vacuum that had a Sander/Scrubber/Massager (yes, Massager!!!) as an option???)... :)

I would highly recommend privately buying 2nd hand though, Kirby salespersons can be very pushy and devious in order to get a sale, and if you get one knocking on the door, just say you already have one (In my case, I have 6, but then I'm a bit of a vacuum nut!!!)... :)

A Kirby is a vacuum for life, they last, they work, and they're easy to use... :)

And there's also the application of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, cos for a modern vacuum to be made, they need to dig up oil, derive plastics from the crude stuff, mould it into shape, it lasts at most about 10 years before suffering plastic-fatigue, and it ends up on a waste dump somewhere, with something like a Kirby though, the metal parts (Aluminium) can be recycled easily, recast into new products, though the original parts will last a very long time before any serious failure that leads to needing for recycling... :)

Not to mention, there are a few rare ones that, if you're lucky, you may find, like this Golden Trophy (based on the 1980 version Tradition like the one next to it) one I have here:

I know this is an old thread, but I had to get that off my chest... :D
