Power shower or mixer shower with pump?

Hi all,

our electric shower appears to be on its last legs so I'd like to replace it with either a power shower or a mixer shower with an external shower pump, either would be fed from existing vented hot water cylinder.

The former seems simpler and cheaper, but are there significant advantages to the latter?

  • I would say external pump all day long makes life so much easier. Electric showers fill me with dread. They never seem to last long.
If i could i would, but i cannot so i wont, but maybe one day i will.

Thanks. Why would you say easier? Just to clarify, by 'power shower' I mean one with an integrated pump that draws hot water from the hot water cylinder.

Especially in a hard water area like this electric showers don't last long!

  • Personally I just don't like electric showers because in my experience they just don't last long.
With an external pump one would hope that you would get better longevity and they hopefully are easier to replace if needs be.

External pump all day long. From my experience they are much more reliable, I'm always seeing built in pumps dyeing after a few years compared to freestanding pumps going longer than 10.

As above...thermostatic mixer shower with pump all day long.

It is the more expensive option, but as long as you invest in a decent pump you should get a long and reliable life out of that combo..
