Thanks Enterprise 1701C. We have told the girls and explained that he will be buried in the garden, and we have just looked at some photos of him on the computer.
I think they understand they won't see him again. I will wait and see if they ask where he is in the morning.
The youngest had a few tears along with me and DH, but the eldest (only 6) seemed fine and understood that he was now playing with nannies dog in doggy heaven.

Sorry to hear your news damo5134 and your right, I think it does help talking about it. My girls where absolutely distraught when our cat died suddenly (she was only a young cat) but it did help involving them. They chose some momentos to place in the little grave with her, favourite toys, photos, etc and I do think it helped them understand. x

It is a very personal thing and everyone has to judge for themselves what's best for their kids. DS2 is so matter of fact about death etc. that no one around here has any choice :o

Definitely, we are the ones who know our kids the best. And we have to do what we are comfortable with too. I guess that is taken a little bit out of your hands with DS2. :o

It was sort of off the top of my head but if I delve into the deep recesses of my brain, I think I made it once with the Hairy Bikers :)
