I can totally see your point, but I'd personally prefer to have the choice of where I will live in my dotage, rather than being placed into the cheapest available council-run place out of necessity, and saving now will give me that choice.

It feels weird having to think about retirement, old age and funeral costs in my 20s, but I know that I won't be getting anything for free any item soon (at least not from the government, I seem to do quite well with T coupon bargains )
