Bought first house for £21 k in 1984. Back then tea was beans on toast and a weekend treat was buying chips from chippy with penny jar. Ex hubby was Coal man back then so that was heating sorted and my dad was butcher so free meat. Interest rates went up between signing for house and moving in. Monthly payments went up £36 and mortgage was over 2 weeks wages.
But shops were shut on a sunday and no late night opening excpt friday until 8pm for Safeway. Only shopped once a week. Once I learnt to drive we had mums car fri to sun every week but do not remember putting fuel in:rotfl:
Things are different now.

We bought our first house late 1988, the height of the boom. The plan was to move to the house which was miles away, and for me to work local to the house. Then discovered I was pregnant, so I stopped working, and OH over time was cut... I remember paying the bills and having £15 left for the month. We had a lovely neighbour who would invite me and DS1 for lunch, so we were fed. OH birthday treat was a portion of onion rings! I miss those days.... but I don't want to go back.100 -

What college are you going to and I take it you are going to fully utilize your student status and the discount opportunities which come with it?
Sorry to quote myself, but do you know you can also get a Young Persons Rail Card (the 16 -25 one) no matter your age when you are a student?
You may need a letter from your uni confirming your student status along with your student card but it can be done.
Think you can also get it for buses too, you can definitely get a student travel pass for the Travel Dundee buses with on-board weekly tickets for £9.00 but you can get longer term ones directly from the Bus Shop in Commercial Street, you need to take in two passport pics to get the longer ones, min 6 weeks max 13 weeks I think. Sorry son not here to ask just now.0 -

This is a very good book first steps in wine making I got mine from eBay for £1.00:)

A bit of an old book but some great recipes there was an old gent that lived by me .He used to give us a bottle of wine now and then.
It was lovely wine and very strong he suggested the book as I was interested in making some wine.
And I needed somewher to start as I had only made cider in the past. It was his holy grail of wine making and he knew his stuff and had the results to prove it.
Last year I made 50L of blackberry wine and it was delicious0 -

Wow, that's still going? Did you use that yeast that lives at a higher alc content (don't know what it's called)?
Me and dh were having a chuckle earlier. This advert came on for a wheeled toy for kids. When the voice advertised it's name, we both looked at each other thinking 'they can't call it that, it's for children'. At the end it showed the name on screen
It's called 'Y-Flicker'

As for open office that was going to be another suggestion, as is registering for "learn direct" as my friend got some accounting software for doing a home learning course there. Sorry can't remember the name.

Was gorgeous here today, mum said Arbroath was foggy so I wondered about Dundee.

Ditto!:D
I ordered 7 x 7 and got 5x6...I rung CS and tried to explain, I don't think maths was his stong point!
he said I hadn't lost out as I had paid the same, he then went to consult his super and then tolsd me he'd call back...
he came back and said there must be a mistake we don't do a 7 pack, only 2, 4, 6!!:p
I told him, you do and I'd got some...amyway he refunded me £2.40, so altho not brill it cost me slightly less than had I got the 7x7 packs...just under 11p a tin...so one cannot grumble!!;)"He that lieth down with dogs shall rise up with fleas" Benjamin Franklin
