Recommendations for a proper gardener around Glasgow area

Hello everyone,
As the title says, I am hoping to get some personal recommendations for a 'real' gardener, whom I could hire to help me get to grips with my good sized, aspirations gone down the drain, weed-ridden garden.
There are lots of good garden maintainence firms around here, but I want someone that knows about plants, their care, best placement etc plus weeding and feeding.
I'm not looking for someone just to cut grass and trim the hedges, I have a hubby happy to do that.
I have been hopeful of doing it myself, but I have come to the painful realisation that I simply do not have enough time or knowledge to do a decent job.
I will also have my hands full with caring duties from now until around August /September and I would like my little invalid to be able to sit out and enjoy the fresh air in pleasant surroundings.
Sadly, I cannot afford a garden designer, nor a landscape gardener, so I am sort of hoping for a miracle, really :-)
I hope someone can help, or even point me in the right direction.
I did think about asking my neighbours, but they all get the maintainence guys to strim and trim (or they dont have gardens anymore, just mono-blocked parking areas! )
Thanks for reading.
Linda x

You could always try your luck writing to Beechgrove Garden 'problem corner'

Depending on how large your garden is you could offer it as a project to a local agricultural/garden design college as a project.

If it is a case of filling existing beds you can look at the bed design areas on Crocus or at Garden on a Roll

We have faced the same issue over the years as we would love to transform our garden however we are skint so have had to work on it ourselves.
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!

Thanks for your suggestions, I looked on the Beechgrove Garden site, but applications will be taken from the end of this season for 2015 :-(
There is a local growing group, I will ask their advice, although I think they have their hands full continuing to create a community garden from previously derelict space!
Any other suggestions are welcome, especially as I have now found what looks very like ground elder in the far corner.
I have pulled it all up, but due to the impending surgery and preparation time, I won't be able to do anything else with it for at least 3 weeks. :-(
