GoPro ideas

Am thinking of a gopro for my birthday, but unsure of which model to get? Is there much between them?

Also, I guess I'm not really an action sports kind of guy, I don't surf, or bungee, or wrestle crocodiles, so how will I get ideas of how to make a short video of a summer holiday, for example, interesting??? All I/we do, is the usual, sunbath, splash around in the water and go out in the evenings

  • The great thing about GoPro's are the sports housings. It you're unlikely to need a waterproof or shockproof camera you could probably save yourself £300-odd and use a mobile phone.

Just wondering, do you really need to buy an action camera? You can get really good quality HD videos from compacts and mirror-less cameras.

If you're not going to use the ruggedness of the gopro, have a look at the Mobius instead - compares favourably https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=gopro+vs+mobius and the price is a lot saner - like £70 instead of £300

Probably out of budget, but you can attach one to a quadcopter to make the footage interesting. Interesting mods have been done to parrot ar drones although they wont take the weight of a go pro.

Can get a hubsan with a passable hd camera built-in, but no 'live' fpv for about £50, and perhaps get a mobius as suggested above for ground level work, and then combine footage.

It doesn't sound like an action camera is what you're needing, they have an ultra wide field of view and the screens are normally very basic (if they even have them at all) so they're no use for shooting anything handheld instead they're designed to be mounted to something to film an activity.

A waterproof compact camera sounds like it would be a much better choice as that way you could take it into the water and get photos/videos there or any other conditions that wouldn't be suitable for normal cameras.
