Affordable housing?

Apologies if this has been posted on here before.......

Could 3D printing be the answer to building future housing?.

It has previously been postulated as a way of solving poverty housing in third world countries, but this link suggests it could be used to build quality housing, custom designed.

Would have major implications for manual labour occupations in housing of course.

In the Uk the land cost is the problems, not slinging the bricks together.

So you reckon that a house can be built in 20 hours, plumbing and electrics included? You clearly have not had the time to view the video.

Say land is 30% of the cost of a house, if you can save 40-50% of construction cost using this technique it would still save money.

3D printing is becoming a standard technique on a smaller scale for some components. There is no reason why the technique cannot be applied on a larger scale.

The "houses" in the link are uninsulated concrete sheds which could be made cheaper using conventional methods.

True, but in some parts of the world people live in structures like this. Its only a concept at present. But a computer controlled printer could in theory create quite complicated and attractive designs.

If you can print the walls, you can print double walls and print the insulation inside the walls along with the electrical cables, water pipes etc.

They do not use ink, although I agree that printing with liquid concrete might block the nozzles just as effectively.:)
