Levelling floor in chimney breast

We have spent two weekends opening up the chimney in our back room. This is now done but we are left with the following problem:

The floor in the room has at some point in the past been replaced with a hard floor (Victorian house). The floor in the chimney that we have opened up is about a 2cm lower than the rest and is a hard floor as well. We are hoping to put two garden slabs in the chimney as a floor. So we can either bed the slabs on thick mortar or raise the floor up to be level with the rest of the room. Which would be best and how would we do it?

Use self levelling screed. The likes of weber floor flex can do 50mm thickness in one hit. Available from CTD - search google for nationwide stores

Floor screed will be the best, you can then set it a little lower and tile on top of it, to level it with the floor. What are you going to put in it?
  • Thank you. I'll track some down next week.
