Esa new claim backdating?

Hi
I have made a new claim for esa and been awarded it but it's only been awarded from 3 days after I made the claim and was informed I could have it backdated to the date I was taken into hospital.
I have a sick note which states everything dates admitted and dates discharged.
What do I have to do to get it backdated and how long is this likely to take?
Thanks

What date did you put on your claim form that you wanted to claim from? Did you enclose the backdated fit notes with the claim form?

If you were not receiving any other benefit (SSP for example) then you can ask for it to be backdated for up to 3 months.

    Telephone them and ask.

I didn't fill a form in it was done over the phone and I have just send the notes into them, they asked the dates of the note on the phone and put that on the form but it says claim start date as the date I rang them and states it won't be paid for 3 days
