Sanding a small area of a room

My reception room has hardwood floors. I removed wall to wall, floor to ceiling shelves from one wall and it has left exposed hardwood floors underneath it that need sanding and varnishing.

I'm considering sanding and varnishing that section only, and living with it being a different color/finish from the rest of the floor. I'm a bit broke after house renovations/decorations and want the cheapest option.

Does anyone know tradespeople in the London area that would do this, or is this an easy enough job for me to rent a sander and do myself (I have little DIY experience).
