New Kitten

Hi everyone, am looking for some advice. We are getting a kitten in a few weeks time and so have started shopping around for supplies, we need EVERYTHING (litter tray, food, toys, scratch post etc).

Does anyone have any recommendations for particularly great products or online shops I can try please.

Thanks in advance

  • I've used viovet recently and they had some cheap products I also have a discount code for £3 off a £15 spend for new customer posted below if that helps.

I purchased flevox flea treatment from vetuk, again cheap.

Good luck and I hope you have lots of fun when you pick up your new addition to the family.
  • If you are thinking of installing a cat flap I would highly recommend the sureflap microchip cat flap as it only lets your cat in, we have had terrible problems in the past with other cats coming into our house and spraying. It also means that you cat feels safe in their own home.

With my kitten we found the dangly toys on sticks great. Others he wasn't too fussed about. We also bought a mouse that squeaks when they hunt it. That's great too.

Zooplus is great, I buy most of the stuff for my 2 moggies from there.

My advice would be to get another kitten! It'd be twice as fun and if you are looking after one, you may as well be looking after two.

I'm only saying as few months down the line you may wish to get another cat so that your kitten has company.... and it'll be much more difficult to introduce one later on ;)

Another recommendation for zooplus. We buy our litter from there. We use golden grey master. It cost a lot at first but two bags lasted 3 months for two cats. We've just got our third so I'm guessing it'll last around 2-2.5 months now.

Any cardboard box even if they can't fit in it is possibly the greatest and cheapest toy ever. Teamed up with tin foil balls, never fails to amuse for ours. Dangly toys are always a win too.

Oh and a kong kickaroo. We've just got our newest addition today and the three of ours have been taking turns on the kickaroo we have. My next order from zooplus at the end of the month has another two of them so they have one each.

Ping pong balls from the poundshop, 12 for - Um, a pound. Barnes loves to chase them round but especially likes to play 'pingponguppastairs'. wont be able to play that if you live in a bungalow or flat though. he also loves his first catnip mouse. he will play 'fishyonaline' too.
for treats he loves Dreamies and Webbox Cat treat sticks. I wouldn't bother getting a pet bed - I have never known a cat who didn't prefer a proper human bed, with proper pillows, and if you are lucky they will share it with you.
I would spray the house with Household Flea Spray - thoroughly- BEFORE the kitten arrives. this past year has been horrendous for fleas and many treatments are just not working now. Don't bother with Frontline. doesn't work anymore. I used Stronghold and it worked for about six months instead of the year the product claims. Acclaim is still good though I understand.

hmmmm what else? cant think of anything so will just wish you luck - and please please please post a pic of the kitten!
  • I bought a litter tray from amazon, it was one with a lid to keep the smell out. It was a neutral colour and much cheaper than in the pet shops, only £15
