Problem with Wedding/engagement ring

Hi all, hope someone can give me some advice regarding the difficult situation we've found ourselves in a week from our wedding.
We went to Birmingham jewellery quarter to order my wife to be's ring. She stipulated that it should have a dip in the band to accomodate her engagement ring. Everything was discussed and agreed and we paid a deposit of £200 on my credit card.
When she went to pick it up a couple of weeks later the ring did not have a dip in it, it was just a normal shaped D band. She took it with her but was unhappy with it, and we took it back the next weekend, when they kept it again to work on it. Picked it up a couple of days later and they said that's the best they could do. They took her engagement ring and shaved some of the bulkiness off from around the solitaire diamond. Still no dip in the wedding ring. She bought it home again, but is still not happy with it as it isn't what she asked for. The shop is now closed for a month.
Today, the diamond has dropped out of her engagement ring and we cannot find it.
So, my questions are.... Are we able to get our money back for the wedding ring which isn't to her specification; and are we able to claim for the work done on the engagement ring - we didn't ask them to adjust that, so were quite shocked that they have, and even more shocked that the diamond has now gone (the ring is 12 years old, long engagement! and has never fallen out before).
I now have a very upset and disappointed fianc!e, wondered if anyone could suggest what rights we have here.
Many thanks

Finding the diamond will put you in a better position. Would you think of refunding someone any money, when the major part of it has been lost?
A pair of tights/stockings, over the end of the hoover pipe, will assist you. Found many contact lenses that way in the past!0 -
Did you ask for any metal to be taken off the engagement ring? Did you give them permission to do this?
If not, then they need to take some responsibility here. I'm assuming that where they thinned the metal on the engagement ring, it loosened the grip on the diamond, hence it has now fallen out?Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Yes that's what they did but they didn't ask and we didn't give permission.
Been to a couple of local jewellers who agree it was probably a factor but would be difficult to prove as the claws holding the stone in place look slightly worn.
The dip in the wedding ring, or lack of, is very annoying as the point of that was to accommodate the engagement ring.
Was a bit annoyed with her for bringing it back home when it was obviously not as we specified.0 -
Go with her the next time.0
