Tax credits award for 14/15, should we have received working tax credits too ?

hi members, a question for you to advise on.

During the 13/14 tax year I changed jobs in December 13 and rung the tax credits helpline to make them aware of a change of job and estimated what the gross would be by the end of 13/14 combining my previous jobs earnings and new jobs earnings.

When the 14/15 tax year had started I rung them back to estimate what me and my wife would earn gross assuming we would be in the same jobs throughout this current whole tax year.

I quoted figures as follows-

myself £10000 estimated gross (30hrs per week)
my wife £5500 estimated gross (16hrs per week)
we have 2 children aged 1 & 7
no disabilities

We have since received a provisional tax credits letter confirming we will receive £457 per month child tax credits but states we will not receive any working tax credits due to income.

When I used the formula off the tax credit website I roughly worked out we should get around £540.

Could members advise if the figures are correct and also should we receive wtc's as well as ctc's.

thanks in advance.

Depends on 13/14 income. Do you know what that was/what they have? It should tell you on your award notice what income they are using in the calculation

hi, yes when I changed jobs in December 13 I quoted them revised combined gross earnings as follows

    (for info purposes 12/13 £23000 actual )
    13/14 £20500 actual
    14/15 £15500 estimated

I was told they would use the estimated 14/15's earnings to work out what to pay us throughout 14/15 and it appears so looking at the award although it mentions also what 13/14's earnings are from what I quoted them in December 13 after job change but it appears they have used 14/15's figures.

I assumed this would put us into wtc's receipt as well as ctc's surely ??

if not what figures would you suggest they have used because using their own formula for our circumstances either gross figure from either tax year throws up a lower or higher figure than £457 per month over 13 months. ( we get month 1 payment on Friday 2nd may )

so what have they done roughly ?

    hope this helps ? thanks
