I recently did a 40ft conifer in my back garden that was damaged by the stormy weather. I bought a chainsaw and had it all down and logged in an afternoon. I borrowed a shredder and got shot of the greenery over the course of a couple of days and did I mention I now have a big boys chain saw :j
Some people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!

Oh dear, why oh why do people go off on one when they get asked to think abiut the impact on others of their giant weeds (leyllandii)?

Anyone who goes to a lawyer must be at their wits end. Now a solicitor's letter has been received, OP will need to declare a dispute, should they come to sell so already everyone is affected.
so it seems strange it's now been changed to a case of the trees damaging her conservatory

Not really, there is no legal 'right to light', however your neighbour can certainly look to legislation on trespass, criminal damage and a general duty of care when trees are causing subsidence.
