Scottish Power Tariff ends soon ... should I switch now or wait?
Options
I have just received an email from Scottish Power, stating that my current tariff (Online Saver 21) ends soon (31st May)
I shall of course consider changing supplier, but can I do it now or must I wait until the official finishing date ? I don't want o end up with penalty charges for finishing early.
Would I have to give them a month's notice if I want to leave ?

Takes 4 to 6 weeks to transfer .
Once 1st June you are on the more expensive tariff .0 -

I am on the same tariff and got the same email. I just made a similar post but when I phoned up I was told that I would NOT have to pay if I switched to another Scottish Power tariff but that I WOULD have to pay it if I switched suppliers. This seems to contradicts the small print at the bottom of the email though. I quoted this to the advisor who told me that if the email said that "it must be wrong" and told me to send it to them, which I will do.0 -

Surely the letter explains your options?
In short you can switch supplier or transfer tariff now without any early exit fee
If you want to transfer tariff (staying with SP) they will probably arrange for the transfer to occur at the end of the existing deal (unless the new tariff actually will cost you less)
The letter will say what happens if you do nothing0 -

Only if the OP does nothing
... or more specifically that SP do not receive any indication of an application to switch supplier (by the new supplier) or change tariff before 31st May (and any change of supplier does not then progress in a reasonable time frame)0 -

In case it helps, I was advised by Scottish Power that if you switch suppliers before you tariff end date (31st May 2014 for this particular tariff), you will have to pay the exit fee.
However if you switch to another Scottish Power tariff before this date, you will NOT be charged an exit fee.
I was advised if you want to switch supplier, to switch as soon after 31st May as possible (but not before) and provided they get notification of your switch within 28 days, you will be charged on the same tariff until the switch completes. So although the tariff ends on 31st May you can continue to be charged those prices for up to 28 days beyond 31st May if you are switching suppliers.
Or an alternative, is to switch to a Scottish Power tariff with no exit fee now (since there is no exit fee if you change tariff, only if you switch suppliers), then make the switch.0
