Changing car insurance, provisional to full license

Hi all, I'm a brand new poster to the forum but regularly browse for tips and tricks and have seen some great advice from you all.
I'm close to passing my test (in fact I've booked for next month) so as such the cost of insurance is very high for me. I've bought a car and plan to get provisional insurance so I can get some additional practice prior to my test. The cost is coming out cheaper but I know that ultimately I'll need to update this to full license cover (providing I pass my test of course!)
My question is, when paying monthly there is normally a deposit payment which is somewhere around 20% of the annual premium. If I pay this for my provisional quote, will I then have to do the same when switching to full cover? I guess if they continue existing cover with a chance then I won't, but would they treat it as a new policy as I will have passed my test?
Any guidance would be appreciated.
Thanks
John

You would normally do an Mid Term Adjustment to change your license type to Full. An additional premium will almost certainly be added plus an admin fee and the remaining DD payments adjusted to reflect these.
Some insurers will cover learners but not newly passed people and in those cases you'd need to cancel the policy, paying a cancellation fee up front, and then buy a new policy with someone else which if done by installments would have a deposit too0 -
When i put my daughter down as passing her test less than a month the prices were higher than putting passed over 1 month ago.
Also there maybe an issue with any no claims earned as a provisional driver. Some systems will see your pass date and say you cannot earn no claims from before that. You will need to phone them directly and explain.
Or stick with the original insurer until it no longer becomes an issue.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
