Software only runs from a stick

I have an application which is stored on a USB stick. It runs from the stick, but if I copy the file structure to my hard drive, it won't run. The program starts, but tells me "The current user dos not have permission to run this software". Any ideas on how the software is identifying that it's not on the stick, or what trick I can use to get it to run.
Thanks
Thanks

If it's windows 7 or newer have you tried right clicking on the shortcut and selecting run as administrator?
Also depending on the program you can't always just copy the files over and expect it to work. You may need to get hold of the install package for the software.0 -
Thanks Golf. Yes, I tried 'Run as administrator' but got the same results. It's a self contained program. It doesn't need to be installed. It runs directly from the stick.0

Have you looked for alternatives? What is the program?0

How about you don't assume that we are all clairvoyant, that we have crystal balls and you explain more about the software itself.
have you looked for configuration files that may be pointing to the memory stick?0 -
The software is a diagnostic tool for a specialist piece of equipment that I use. So there is no alternative.
To be clear, if I copy the whole stick to a second stick, then the software won't run off the second stick. As soon as it starts up, it knows it's not on the original stick. That's where the tricky part is. Does anybody, clairvoyant or otherwise, have any suggestions what tricks they might use to do this, and how to get around them? I would like to back up my software.0 -
Is the original stick the one supplied by the software provider? It sounds like that there is a good bit of anti-piracy built in, you can have one copy that runs only on the stick it was supplied on. If you want more then you purchase another copy on another stickThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

That's what I'm getting at. Has someone found a copy utility for sticks that might copy over what they've done to the stick. Or can someone suggest what you might do to a stick to make it unique, so I can try duplicating it for the second stick.
I would raly like to run off my hard drive. I don't want to carry the stick with me all the time.
Thanks0 -
MSE does not condone software piracy which is what you are asking. They appear to have set up a system to prevent copying/piracy for a reason. Why don't you go back to the company that produced it and ask them. They will no doubt quote you a figure for a second copy and advise about placing on your hard driveThis is a system account and does not represent a real person.
