in Credit cards
Hi,
When paying for items using a debit card I can get cash back at the till. Can you do the same thing with a credit card? If so, is this treated the same as a cash machine withdrawl?
Tried searching for this, but just got 'cash back' credit cards!
Thanks,
Paul

I've only tried this once with a credit card and computer said no! No doubt that same answer is universal?0

You cannot get cash-back on a credit card.
A debit card transaction costs a flat fee (to the shop); but on a credit card, the fee is based on the value of the transaction.

And you shouldn't withdraw cash on a credit card either. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.

Sure thing, just wondered if the cashier would ask the question.0

On our tills it doesn't give the option unless it's a debit card. Makes sense really!

You can if you know the guy on the till !0

I'm not aware of being able to withdraw cash on a credit card at the checkout however you can at a cash machine but bear in mind that this will be classed as a cash advance & you could end up paying a high interest rate from the day you withdraw the cash.0

The only way to do this is to put through as a charge, only works on the machines that you manually put in the amount.
E.g you buy something at £10 but the charge goes through as £40 and you get £30 out the till. Many places will not do this, but it was my local pub that did it.0
