CV advice on Universal Jobmatch

I went to sign on this morning and my advisor at Job Centre asked me if my CV on Universal Jobmatch account is pubic and I said no as I setted it to private, anyway he said that if I don't set it to public then I could face a sanction on my JSA claim.
Just wondering is he right or wrong to say I will face a sanction if I don't do what he tells me to do?
I thought its not mandatory to set CV to public?

I'm not really up on these things, but I'd suggest that if it's not set to public then employers cannot see it unless you specifically apply - which in your position isn't exactly intelligent! If you're worried about personal information being snooped on then simply create a CV without all that sort of stuff & set that to public.
However you're the one with your job seekers agreement which will tell you if it's something which has been deemed mandatory for you - which given the length of time you've been on JSA wouldn't surprise me.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0 -

Oh for goodness sake. Just set the CV to public view and be done with it. Employers aren't going to be able to see it otherwise are they? Why do you make life difficult for yourself constantly?0

He's wrong, and lying to you basically.
You don;t have to set it to public at all. In fact, you would be foolish (or don;t know how the system works) to do so.
I think you do have to give them a copy of your CV though, if you deny them access on Universal Jobsearch (if mandated to do so)0 -

Employers can't see it anyway - unless it is then used to apply for jobs through Universal Jobsearch.
You can do that without allowing the DWP access0 -

Ah. Fair enough. So why would it be important to set it to public then?0 -

Allow a great samaritan like me to answer your obviously stupid question. You set it public so employers who hunt for candidates can view your profile, and therefore contact you with an invitation to a job interview. This leads to something known as employment where you work, get paid, pay taxes, and stop claiming benefits. A lot of people get hired from employers contacting them after seeing their CV. It's only logical to do everything you can to find a job.0 -

Well thank you great samaritan. Do feel free to pick up a less patronising attitude to work side by side with your helpful advice sometime.
Stupid question or otherwise, that tone was uncalled for. I was responding to a post made by another poster as I was interested enough to ask for clarification.0 -

The OP would be foolish to do so, yes, as they are desperate to avoid employment.
A person who did want employers to be able to find them, on the other hand, would be well advised to have their details included in searches.0
