Offered another dog

Hope someone can help I have been asked if I would consider rehoming a 2yr old dog

I have an 18mth bichon and this is another bichion I am just wondering the pros and cons I was considering getting another dog in the near future when my dog has recovered from an op he had for slipped knee.

If I did rehome the dog what would be the best way to introduce both dogs to each other ( and my cats)

First of all would they be the same sex? (even neutered) I have experienced b**** (girlie) aggression and got bitten in the process! Friends have 2 or more same sex .. and no problems but I am not going down that route again!
I would suggest the dogs meet somewhere neutral so neither are "defending" their territory. Then you can see if they will get on.

I think dogs do like to have other canine company. I had my old boy pts last month and my girl is very subdued having lived all her life with companions. I got her in a hurry because my old boy was pining badly when her predecessor was pts suddenly.... so it is a chain reaction. If the dogs get on then they can be great playmates. Next month I am going to seek out a new companion for her, he will be younger so I am hoping she will get her bouce back!

Of course in your case the cats and dog may already be buddies.
