Anyone have any experience with Barclaycard Initial?

Hey Guys (& gurls)!

So after 6 months of having my Capital One Progress, I figured I'd try my chances with the Barclaycard Initial, I applied before end of the last year before I got the Progress, and it flat out declined me.

On Tuesday I thought I'd try again and I see they are offering five months 0% on purchases, so I applied, however this time it asked me to set up memorable details, such as memorable place and some kind of number code. Anyway, did that then it said something along the lines of we need to check a few details we'll be in contact with 3 - 5 days. Anyway, I called them this morning and they said that the application is still open and no decision has been made, and was told to call back within 2 - 3 days.

The only thing I can think of is that on my Equifax file there is a Notice Of Correction concerning a CCJ that is 5 years and 8 months old, does this deem a manual review of the application? :o

I know that there are endless posts on here where OP's have answered their own question in their first post, however just wanted to know if anyone has any experience of BC :)

Ta! x

Your sig, are those your credit limits or current balances? It could be the fact you owe £3100, if they are just your limits then I'll step out and let someone else with more knowledge say 'yeah is the CCJ correction'

The NOC on your file will trigger a manual review. A CCJ of that age might not make it a decline, but it'll depend on how much the CCJ is for?

If the CCJ is the only bad thing on your file, why not wait four months, until it drops off, and apply for a mainstream card?

The CCJ was for £308, the only other bad thing is a default however that drops off in June.. Maybe I should have waited!

what if your past your "credit building stage" why didn't you try for a prime mainstream instead of yet another sub prime?

    Because of the CCJ :(

No mainstream will touch me!!, apart from Nationwide who I have my bank account and overdraft with... But give me their Credit Card :)
  • I applied for this as my first credit building card. At the time (July 2012) I had a CCJ for about £580 that was showing as unsatisfied (but no NOC) and about 3.5 years old and a pretty new default for about £50. I had no other credit or outstanding debt. The website said I had a 9 out of 10 chance so I applied and the same thing happened as the OP. They then wrote to me asking for copies of ID and bank statements which I sent. I gave it up after hearing nothing more and then about 10 days later they wrote to me and much to my surprise said I was approved, limit £400. Card arrived a couple of weeks after that.

I then started spending putting my food spending on it and (usually) paying it off every month and about 4 months later they upped my limit to £1200.

What is the best mainstream card?

Isn't getting Initial spending limit increased and APR decrease offer the same benefits as mainstream cards?
