Lost cat (in house?!)

We were catsitting for my mil last night and had the cat at our house. The cat was a bit nervous as expected but didn't seem stressed or anything, she was purring away when we went to bed. We locked all the doors and windows and this morning I could see she had come out to drink her milk though not used the litter tray. Anyway, we've been looking high and low for over an hour and we can't find her anywhere and I am starting to panic. I know cats can hide in the oddest of places so can someone please help with ideas. I haven't told my mil yet cos she will be so upset. What can I do?!

What sort of house have you got? Chimneys? Behind the washing machine/fridge/freezer?
Swing top bin she leapt onto and fell into?
Washing pile? Inside the washing machine?
Behind all the curtains, on the windowsill?
Under the sofa?
In your bed, under the duvet at the foot of the bed?0 -

We've only got a small bungalow so there's only a limited number of places she could be. I've checked all of the above about 3 times now and she still hasn't turned up. I really don't see where she could have gone.0 -
Just found her. She had got behind one of the plinths in the kitchen though god knows how, I can't see even the smallest of gaps for her to get through. Blimey, I can breathe again now!0

I feel your pain. When our two were kittens I left them shut in the kitchen two minutes later they were gone! took 10 minutes to find they had got behind the kick board under the integrated cooker through a tiny gap. One of them remains an expert at hiding especially if an outsider dares to visit. When using the housing forum please use the sticky threads for valuable information.0

LOL I was going to suggest the kitchen plinth. My boyfriend's cat did the exact same thing when he moved house for the first couple of days until she settled in.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

It's amazing how small a space they can get through. Glad you've found her

I'm glad you found her. I lost my new kitten the day we got him.
We found him under the chest of drawers. This is now his safe place.0 -
It this was not an overnight thing I was going to suggest the fridge-if one of the tall freestanding ones- happened three times with a completely white kitten and three different family members. Luckily spotted within a minute the first time- and then we were aware and knew to check before closing the door.0
