Dog groomer needed - Berkshire

Hi,

I'm trying to find a mobile groomer in East Berkshire for my friends toy poodle who hates being groomed. She needs someone experienced and very patient!

I've found dial-a-dog-wash, can anyone recommend them?

Thanks for any help!

  • I mid-read my friends text. It's actually her Mum who needs a new groomer for her border terrier! She is in Fleet, Hampshire. She needs someone mobile as she is disabled and can't drive. She also needs someone who grooms in a van outside because she can't clean up the dog hair herself indoors and the cleaner only comes once a week. Someone who would collect/deliver would be another option.

    Does any one use 'Dial-a-Dog-Wash?

    Don't use Dial a dog.

Find somebody that would use reward based techniques only. The last thing you want is your dog associating being groomed with pain or fear!

    That's what I'm trying to do 😄

Are dial-a-dog bad then? I'm never sure about these big franchises but I guess it totally depends on the individual running them.

Yeah, they won't get much training on dealing with nervous or unsure dogs. I would ring local groomers, ask for quotes and ask for advice about how to groom your dog and judge their response. Anything involving pinning the dog down or just giving him a light tap would be crossed off the list immediately.
  • Well the border terrier isn't nervous or unsure, that was the poodle that I first thought I was looking for a groomer for but I had misunderstood. Even so, I won't use anyone who rough handles a dog. Dial a dog do say you can be in the van with your dog which would solve that, but my friends Mum wouldn't be able to do that so no help in this case.

    I'm not having much luck.

It might be worth breaking it down into two services. A reputable local groomer, found by recommendation or good reviews, and then a local pet taxi service to get the dog to and from the groomer
  • Great idea! I hadn't thought of that, thanks.
